Deep colour and flavour but sinewy, dry and herbal through the finish. Handy combination, or it is when done well, as it is here. Dark cherry, plum and blackberry adds the stuffing; meat and iodine notes another dimension; while bitter chocolate and roasted nut characters do nothing but emphasise the quality of the offering.
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2012 Syrah de Malakoff is a bit more fragrant than the 2010, with a lifted floral nose over a core of black berries, loam, Mediterranean herbs and tar.Medium to full-bodied, it offers nice freshness in the mouth with a solid structure of firm tannins and a good long finish. It should cellar gracefully for 15 years+.
