made with 50% whole clusters. A subtle touch of wood frames the ultra-fresh and cool aromas of rose petal, red and dark fruit along with a pretty spice hint. There is a lovely sense of tension to the detailed, punchy and delicious flavors that are supported by ripe tannins on the balanced and lingering finish.
Vincent Geantet, who is now comfortably ensconced in his new digs on the outskirts of Gevrey, described 2014 in the same way he did 2013 which is to say a "very good if not genuinely great vintage. We waited quite late to pick and didn't start until the 21st of September. We were able to wait because the conditions were clement and we weren't troubled by any disease pressure or the Suzukii flies. Because there was a good and even flowering and there wasn't much in the way of sorting losses either, yields were reasonable though by no means high. Maturities were quite good exactly because we waited so long to begin picking as potential alcohols were in the 12.8 to 13.2% range. Moreover we equipped our new cuverie entirely with wooden fermenters and I think it has made a big difference in our vinifications and in particular with softer and finer extractions. As to the wines they are balanced and importantly possess notably ripe tannins which should allow the wines to drink well young but age well too." As I have repeatedly underscored, Geantet makes some of the best villages level wines around, particularly from Gevrey, so if top value is what you're after, you should make yourself familiar with these offerings.
