Made from 25-35 year old vines the 2014 Crozes Hermitage les Jalets (the name ‘Jalets’ comes from the word ‘galets’ which is Old French for the pebbles left by alpine glaciers), comes partially from purchased grapes and partially from estate vineyards (contains almost 30% domaine fruit, including 10% from the single-vineyard ‘Les Jalets and 20% from ‘Domaine de Thalabert Crozes-Hermitage’).
Aged all in older casks, it exhibits fresh, lively notes of black cherries, pepper and spring flowers to go with a medium-bodied, supple, yet lightly textured and paul jabouletquaffable feel on the palate. It's well made and charming, and is a good effort, especially in this less than straightforward vintage.
