2015 Paul Jaboulet Hermitage ‘La Maison Bleue’, Northern Rhone, the whole shebang. Dense and inky black fruits, ranging from black cherries to blueberries. Succulent, juicy and richly textured. Tobacco and licorice make an appearance, with tannins in the mix keeping it all tight and terrific. Hard cheeses or lamb strap with a rich jus.
95 pts – James Suckling, tasted September 2017
A striking, exotic nose with red stone fruits and extremely expressive berries as well as darker cherries and plums, and plenty of dark stony notes, too.
The palate is super plush, expansive and deeply structured. Velvety, deep and supple, and packed with red and dark cherries and plums.
Dense, velvety tannins. Super expressive and long with a stony finish. Drink from 2020 and beyond.
(raised in 20% new oak): Opaque ruby. Powerful smoke- and spice-accented aromas of ripe blueberry, olive and violet are lifted by a zesty mineral overtone. Deeply concentrated yet lively, showing impressive focus and energy to its black and blue fruit and floral pastille flavors, which pick up an Indian spice accent as the wine opens up. Deftly marries power and finesse and finishes extremely long and sweet, with repeating dark berry character and youthful tannins that sneak in late. Note that this wine was called La Petite Chapelle through the 2014 vintage.
