Jancis Robinson Ten Year Vertical Tasting 2015 (2001 to 2010)
In May 2015 Jancis Robinson tasted 56 wines in historic verticals from Pazo de Señorans in Rías Baixas, Domaine des Baumard in Savennières, Stella Bella in Margaret River, Paul Hobbs in northern California, Domaine Ain Tasmania and Celler de Capçanes in Montsant. Intentional-ly tasted from old to young in order to see the evolution of the winemaking.
Suckfizzle oaked Sauvignon Blanc-dominated blend is a very special wine indeed. Quite unlike the Margaret River SemSauv norm, this is a classy, ageworthy wine modeled on Domaine de Chevalier. In a way this was the revelation of the tasting for me. It shouldn’t have been because we have 21 tasting notes on this superb oaked blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon and they are uniformly enthusiastic. But it took this vertical to demonstrate to me just how superbly this wine ages.
