No, the price is not a typo! Pretty rare to find 1er Cru white Burgundy at this price, and even rarer to find it at the same price as a villages. The reason is simple, this is under the Céline et Vincent Dureuil label, which means that this is a négociant bottling. Even though it isn’t your average négoce bottling and comes from an organic vineyard, Vincent Dureuil believes in selling his négociant bottlings at a lower price than his Domaine wines.
So this ends up considerably cheaper than the Domaine’s 1er Cru bottlings that come from the Domaine’s own vines. Rabourcé is a site with the nickname of ‘the Montrachet of Rully’ for the richness and power it delivers. It is a very steep site, west of the village above the highly regarded Cloux vineyard, and just below the forest.
The soils here are mostly whitish, limestone-rich clay. It is always the first vineyard to ripen. It may not be ‘Domaine’, but the quality is outstanding for the money. Expect layers of spicy, white peach and nectarine fruit and a vibrant, mineral personality. Genuine value.
