Tight and chewy with currant and blueberry character. Medium body, a lovely center palate and a subtle finish. Pretty continuation to the 2015.
April 2017
The 2016 La Gurgue has a pretty bouquet with blackberry, violets and a touch of strawberry pastilles, although I would have liked just a little more intensity on this Margaux. The palate is medium-bodied with edgy, slightly rigid tannin. It does not quite "flow" like others. For example, I am much more taken with the Villars family's superb Chasse-Spleen this year, and it could benefit from a touch more fruité on the finish. Good, but I have fonder memories of the 2015 La Gurgue twelve months ago.
