The youngest member of the Jamsheed family hails from the former Bluestone Acres Vineyard in the Upper Yarra area of Wandin East, near Seville. Gary Mills & co. took over the lease and farming of this vineyard in September 2016; it's a north-facing site, planted in the mid-90s on red Monbulk clay, volcanic red clay over bluestone rock (exactly the same as the cobblestones in Melbourne's CBD).
Since taking the keys, Jamsheed have been farming the site 'biologically', in Gary's words, "trying our best to revitalize the microbiology of the soil; no synthetic herbicides, pesticides or fungicides. The vineyard has been unirrigated since late 2016."
The first release from the Wandin site is this 2017 Sauvignon Blanc. Gaz fills in the specs, thus: "hand harvested on the 18th March and whole bunch pressed into an older 5,000-litre oak foudre. Fermented with indigenous yeasts and with a high percentage of solids, it spent six months on full lees and then was bottled direct from barrel unfined and unfiltered with a small amount of SO2."
