The Marchand & Burch ‘Villages’ Chardonnay is sourced from the Mount Barker sub-region of the Great Southern.
Hand-picked, whole bunch pressed and naturally fermented in 50% older French oak barriques, hogsheads and puncheons and 50% in stainless steel tanks and then aged for 9 months, the Villages Chardonnay has a dry straw colour with a subtle bouquet of white field flowers, meringue and citrus zest. The flavours and textures of finely ground nutmeal and lemon curd, give weight to the palate whilst a fine minerally acidity adds length and crispiness. A wine of fine structure, gentle fruit and bright acid that will evolve over the next 3-4 years.
100% Mount Barker fruit. Oak sits fairly prominently in the bouquet in the form of a nutty, nougat character, but there are aromas of pear and grapefruit which will no doubt continue to build as it develops. Juicy, ripe fruit flavours of stone fruit and pineapple are carried along by fresh, crisp acidity, the finish well textured with a hint of oak lingering.
