A splendidly generous montepulciano, red, purple and black fruits all in the contest, keeping tannins, oak and acidity all at bay. There may be some oak on the sideline, but it's largely irrelevant.

Big heavy bottle. Big heavy wine – though with a little more light/shade this year than usual. The cooler 2017 season no doubt helped.
The core is dark and beefy but game and orange rind characters lend this some extra spark. Indeed as it breathes lavender and leather notes come to the fore, offering yet more interest. It’s tough and tannic in personality but it’s also pretty and complex. It has a fair bit to offer.

Deep red colour with a faint tint of purple. The bouquet is slightly reductive and showing good ripe, fresh fruit beneath. The wine has good structure and balance, a long carry and nice tight structure. Very smart.
