2020 Robert Weil Kiedrich Riesling Trocken, Rheingau

This is Weil’s ‘villages’ level Riesling (the village being Kiedrich). The fruit is a blend of younger-vine material, as well as first-picked parcels from the classified hillside estate sites of Klosterberg, Turmberg and Gräfenberg. As with the Rheingau Trocken, there is a measure of Wasseros fruit.
 
As you would expect from such terroir, it is a step up from the entry wine—with more texture and power, and considerably more rocky, mineral intensity. One-third of the wine was raised in large Stockinger doppelstückfass (wooden cask) for six months. Picked at 90/91° Oechsle—deep into Spätlese territory—the 2020 is gorgeously sculpted, with seams of stone fruit, flowers and stone lifting off the tongue, on route to a long, velvety and electric finish.

A very classic dry Rheingau riesling with plenty of mineral depth, packed in a rather sleek body. Delicate white-fruit aromas with some yellow-peach and floral notes. Long and precise, dry finish, the freshness of which pulls you back for more. Drink or hold.

..the 2020 Kiedricher Riesling Trocken offers a precise and intensely aromatic, finely flinty and coolish bouquet of perfectly ripe stone fruits intertwined with finely stony, floral and herbal notes. Juicy, round and very elegant on the palate, this is an intense and generous, mouth-filling but refined and persistently salty Riesling with ripe, salivating acidity and fine mineral structure. Impressive—and already gorgeous to drink.
