A wet and cold winter in 2016 prolonged budburst and restricted vigour for the first month of growth. Flowering was some two weeks behind average. Cool and typical dry conditions prevailed from November through to harvest. The fruit was harvested in mid-April 2017. Shiraz 95.4%, Mourvèdre 2.4%, Malbec 2%, Viognier 0.2%.
Bright ripe fruits, dark cherries with spiced plum, black pepper and spice with subtle integration of oak. A middle weighted palate with bright florals, juicy fruit and a lifted integration of earthy spice note and black pepper. Soft, mouthcoating tannin, a creamy texture and subtle oak provides a poised, elegant finish. The small additions of Mourvèdre and Malbec with vibrant Shiraz fruit notes gives aromatic lift and subtle texture. Good acidity and fine tannins combine to create a soft finishing, well-weighted cool-climate style.
