2017 is just the second release of Garcon, a pure Grenache from vines in the Barossa (90%) and Eden Valleys (10%). he three vineyards that provided the fruit for Garcon in 2017 are located in the extreme west (Moppa), north (Ebeneezer) and east (Springton) of the Barossa and are 55, 90 and 160 years of age respectively. All are unirrigated and hand-picked
High toned, mineral edged red and blue fruits lead to a savoury aromatic core of dried herbs, game and potters clay. Pure but with a restrained rusticity.
Youthful, mid-weight palate, bright spiced red cherry and ripe raspberry fruits on attached to turn to a slately, dried spice and cherry pit close. Precise and focussed, fine sandy tannins and bright acids deliver drive and finish.
The Barossa Valley has its own take on grenache, very different to McLaren Vale, and this is of the highest class. The perfumed bouquet of wild flowers and berries leads into a beautifully honed and polished palate, where red berries and savoury characters are on equal terms.
