The ‘spine of Figuera’ is a 100% Grenache from two old, high-altitude vineyards. On the back slopes of the Montsant mountain range, these vineyards here are amongst the highest in the region, sitting at 700-800 metres. The oldest vines for this cuvée are 80 years old, with an average of 60 years. Regarding the vinification, Vèrtebra de la Figuera was 100% whole-bunch fermented, raised in concrete and bottled unfiltered. This is really superb. Silky smooth, complex and oh so pure. Again that wonderful lightness of touch yet now with flesh and seduction. Layers of sweet and spicy cherry fruit (very Pinot!) yet vibrantly fresh. Wonderful.
A hint of funk from reduction, but it blows off fast to reveal complex and delicate floral and spicy aromas that weave a compelling picture, unlike any other garnacha I know. Astonishingly filigree on the palate with a very long finish, perfectly supported by the refined tannins.Drink or hold.
