Domaine du Pélican, based in Montigny-les-Arsures, near Arbois, Jura, was started in 2012 by Guillaume d’Angerville, of Domaine Marquis d’Angerville in Volnay, Burgundy, and François Duvivier, régisseur at Domaine Marquis d’Angerville. Domaine du Pélican farms high quality terroirs located in and around the city of Arbois, with the aim to create a new, high quality domaine based in this magnificent region, with strong winemaking traditions. The wines are vinified, barrelled and bottled locally, on the estate.
This is the emblematic vine of Jura. In Jura, Savignin is mostly used to produce vin jaune, an oxydative wine which has made Jura famous. Domaine du Pélican produces a non-oxydative cuvée (topped up during elevage in the barrel to avoid oxydation, hence called "Savagnin Ouille"). The Savagnin vine belongs to the Traminer family.
