Thal is inextricably linked to our estate. It is our oldest and most traditional vineyard, where our family cultivated their first vines in 1856. The vines grow on terraces composed of sandy, in some parts very chalky loess resting on gravel and red sand. The wine demonstrates the bright side of Veltliner, with delicate white and yellow fruit and a characteristic sandy minerality.
Nuances of yellow tropical fruit, a bit of pineapple and mango, hints of flowers and honey; complex texture, elegant, fine acidity, good length; versatile food companion. Age 8+ years.
A creamy aspect joins the yellow pear and ripe lemon notes on the nose. The palate tingles with just a little spritz and has edges of that yeasty, salty, herbal savoriness. There is lovely concentration. The dry finish is appetizing and peppery.
