After 2019’s no-show, it’s fair to say Barney Flanders has had some fun with the 2020 rosé. The lion’s share of the juice was directly pressed from Merricks Pinot Noir. To this Flanders added a portion of Pinot Gris (fermented on skins for three weeks) and a snippet of Tuerong Gewürz. The blend spent six months in neutral barrique, on lees, before bottling.
The result is probably the most delicious, come-and-get-me textural rosé we have tasted under this label. Expect a wine with a beautiful onion skin colour and a pretty, spicy palate loaded with red fruit, rosewater and aniseed notes, and a crunchy, refreshing close. Delicious.
