Gevrey-Chambertin is a wine with a beautiful, bright ruby colour. Intensely fruity on the nose, the aromas are reminiscent of black cherry, wild blackberry and licorice. The woody character is subtle and marries delicately with the other aromas. As the wine evolves, there are more complex notes, such as mild spice, nutmeg and leather. Later still, mushroom and damp earth nuances make their appearance. Although present on the palate, tannin is never astringent but blends itself harmoniously with the natural freshness and "gras" (velvety texture) of the wine. The same aromas encountered earlier on the nose are found again in the aftertaste
The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Village contains Premier Cru fruit and is quite deep in color. It has a ripe, focused bouquet of dark plum and black currant aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with a fine bead of acidity, mainly red fruit and a refreshing, spicy finish, quite saline on the aftertaste.

Drouhin's 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Village bursts with aromas of cherries, cassis, sweet soil tones, grilled meats and orange rind. Medium to full-bodied, lively and layered, it's concentrated but elegant, with refined, powdery tannins and a sapid finish.

The 2019 vintage has turned out beautifully at this address, delivering wines of immense charm, and it was a pleasure tasting through this selection with Véronique Drouhin. These textural, sumptuous whites will offer considerable immediate appeal—even if Drouhin's two bottlings from the holdings of the Marquis de Laguiche are also built for the cellar—but it's the perfumed, vibrant and enveloping reds that really steal the show this year. To my palate, of all the region's important houses, Drouhin's style places the greatest premium on aromatic range and structural finesse; and the 2019 reds compellingly exemplify those aesthetic priorities.
