Dry. Organic. With Müller Catoir's Haardt Riesling we hit the 'village' level of the German VDP classification. As in Burgundy, the village or commune level wines can incorporate fruit from several sites including declassified fruit from single, classified vineyards. Müller-Catoir's version includes young vine material from the legendary Grosses Gewächs-rated Bürgergarten vineyard as well as from the classified sites of Herzog, Mandelring and Herrenletten.

The fruit is slowly crushed, allowing for some skin contact, and raised in steel tank, resulting in a wine of terrific depth and a racy, salty, mineral personality. Just wonderful, with crystalline fruit (yellow plum, peach, crushed herb) and a fine, gently powdery and super saline finish that lingers on and on.
It's hard not to play the 2015 "great vintage" card here. A serious Rizza.

"The 2015 Pfalz Riesling Trocken Haardt has a deep and intense Riesling flavors that reflects the deeper soils of the vineyards in the Haardt slopes. The nose is discreet in its white stone fruit aromas, but deep, intense, really clear and fresh. On the palate, this is a very straight, firm and pure Riesling with a lot of grip and tension. However, it needs more time to develop its charm. The mineral length and compact structure is already impressive though."
