This is a shallow soiled terroir with iron-rich, clay heavy soils and the Domaine’s holdings were planted between 1974 and 1979. When young, Maréchaudes is always the most forward and seductive example of Chandon’s mighty trio of Corton (rouge) wines although the 2015 is a very powerful example of this terroir. It’s a dense and somewhat chewy Corton rouge although there are also seductive florals and liqueur-like, plummy fruit that emerges with air. The finish is long and complex with saline, and ferrous notes. 70 - 80% whole bunches were used.
