Chateau Bastor Lamontagne dates all the way back to the middle ages. It was once the property of the King of England and later by the King of France.
Chateau Bastor Lamontagne was not included in the historic 1855 Classification of Sauternes and Barsac and has operated in relative obscurity over the past few centuries. It was eventually bought by Credit Foncier Bank in 1936, but before that was at one time, owned by Amedee Larrieu, who owned Chateau Haut Brion.The Cathiard family, owners of Chateau Smith-Haut Lafitte in Pessac-Leognan and Chateau Beauregard in Pomerol, bougth it finally from Credit Foncier in 2014.
Planted to 80% Semillon, 17% Sauvignon Blanc and 3% Muscadelle, the 52 hecatare vineyard is located close to Chateau Suduiraut, with a large percentage of their vines touching the vineyards of Suduiraut.
Pale lemon in color, the 2016 Bastor-Lamontagne leaps from the glass with candied lemon peel, apple tart, nutmeg and honeycomb scents plus a waft of fresh hay. The palate reveals impressive depth with loads of honey-nut and earthy accents with the citrus and apple layers, finishing perfumed. Drink 2019 - 2032
