'This was the wine that started a style of riesling hitherto unknown - John Vickery used it in the Clare and Eden Valleys in the '60s and '70s, but the fruit base bore no resemblance to Tasmanian riesling. It took then Frogmore winemaker Andrew Hood 2 years to persuade Huon Hooke and myself (as judges of the Tasmanian Wine Show) in '81 and '82 the wine should receive gold medals, and there was then no turning back.

A very wet spring prevented watering the vineyard until January. The temperatures were mild and weather overcast all along. Summer with some warmer days towards February/March. Picking started mid March and finished early May. Ripening of the grapes was very slow but the end product quality is very good. Aromas of sweet pear. Sweet texture, balanced with a fresh acidity.
Attractive floral, 'powder puff' riesling aroma; the palate delicate, refined, with nicely balanced sweetness. A delicious wine, albeit a trifle short. 18 JAN 2018 Drink 2018–2024
