.98% Nebbiolo and 2% Cabernet Franc. The Nebbiolo hails from a vineyard at Magliano Alfieri—in the foothills of the Roero region—purchased in 2016 (the vines were planted in 1967 and 1998). The Cabernet Franc comes from 20-year-old Estate vines in Barbaresco. Roero’s sandy soils gift a lighter, brighter, early-drinking wine compared with the Rocca’s Nebbiolo d’Alba.
The wine’s upbringing (solely in tank) and early bottling (under Stelvin) helps keep to this theme. The 2018 is a wonderfully fresh, vibrant, and delicate expression of Nebbiolo. It’s packed with juicy redcurrant, rose petal and cranberry-scented fruit, and offers a class and tension that is terrific for the price. It’s lovely to drink now—totally ready and totally delicious!
