An important Amarone with extraordinary power and complexity, a classic in the Italian winemaking portfolio. This is the icon wine of the historic Serego Alighieri estate and comes from the eponymous vineyard, the source it seems of the very name Amarone itself. Its elegant personality is enhanced by the
use of the Serego Alighieri clone of the Molinara grape and by ageing in cherry – wood casks, as family tradition dictates.

The excellence of this aristocratic appassimento wine has been recognized by Wine Spectator, who have classed it as one of the 10 best wines in the world for 2015.

COLOUR: Deep, bright, ruby red.
BOUQUET: Complex, super ripe cherries with baked plums.
FLAVOUR: Illusions of sweetness, cherry and berry fruit tastes. Spicy hints of cinnamon and vanilla.

Perfect with red meat, game, quails, roasts and full flavoured dishes. Excellent match for mature cheeses with bite, such as parmesan or pecorino. Fabulous full–blown after dinner wine.

AGEING POTENTIAL: 30 – 35 Years.

A firm and tannic 2012 with chewy yet polished tannins and lots of dark fruit. Lots of blue fruit and minerals. Full-bodied yet tight and powerful. Shows structure for the future, but if you can’t wait, decant two hours before serving. Drink or hold.

This wine is part of the Serego Alighieri property, hailing back to 1353, one that prizes a slightly more linear and compact wine in terms of the mouthfeel. The 2012 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Serego Alighieri Vaio Armaron brings out some black olive, but mostly we're talking about super dark fruit here in a seamless delivery. I had the bottle open for a while, and it just got better as it breathed. It's a blend of 70% Corvina, 20% Rondinella and 10% Molinara, with huge intensity and 15.5% alcohol, a nice red for a steak and an acorn squash purée. The aromas recall your classic Amarone, with dried fruit, raisin, prune and exotic spice.
