Deep ruby red with light garnet hues. Fine, intense, harmonious. The typical aromas of classic Sangiovese (ripe red fruits and tobacco) are perfectly balanced with the classical oak hints given by the long ageing in the barrique. The elegant structure envelopes the soft, ripe tannins whilst displaying complex red and black fruit characters.
Col d’Orcia’s Poggio al Vento was one of Tuscany’s first single-vineyard Brunellos, first released in 1982. As the winery’s most celebrated wine, it is made only in excellent vintages with just 20,000-25,000 bottles produced. The advanced age of the vines (over 40 years old) generates concentrated flavours and aromas to the wine, while the well-drained calcareous soils contribute structure.
While this intense wine is now coming of age, it can also be cellared for many more years, suggested to 2030.
