2019 Ch La Louvière Rouge, Pessac-Léognan

This was enjoyable in 2018 and continues to be so in this vintage, with fresh red and berry fruits, and a sense of life and vivacity across the palate. The texture could still be developed further but this is a lovely La Louviere with a sense of forward motion and balance, just coming in with a coffee lick on the finish to add interest. 50% new oak, across an array of different sizes. Now under the direction of Jacques Lurton, with new technical director Anne Neuville. Drinking Window 2024 - 2038

The 2019 La Louvière was picked from 19 September to 11 October at 47hl/ha, then matured in around 50% new oak. It offers blackberry, melted tar and sous-bois scents on the nose, a little broody at first but opening up nicely with aeration. The palate is very well balanced with firm grip, plenty of graphite infused black fruit with a vivacious and quite persistent finish. This is a superb La Louvière, one of the best that I have encountered from barrel.
