Plenty of blackberry, chocolate and light walnut aromas and flavors. Medium body, refined tannins and a pretty finish. Attractive balance and refinement.
The 2019 Clos René continues a strong run of form for this oft-overlooked Pomerol estate. The bouquet is well defined and pure with vivacious red cherries, redcurrant jam and raspberry all interlaced with black truffle and dark chocolate scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, well judged acidity, touches of orange rind and even marmalade infusing the tart red fruit. Everything here just seems extremely well proportioned. Recommended.
The 2019 Clos René is juicy, pliant and distinctive, with no hard edges and terrific overall balance. Dark fruit, espresso, licorice, menthol and lavender meld together in a supple and caressing Pomerol graced with lovely fruit presence and fine balance. Succulent dark cherry, spice, cedar, new leather and licorice all open up with a bit of coaxing. This is decidedly an understated Pomerol that has much to offer.
