The 28.5 hectare, Left Bank, Bordeaux vineyard of Chateau Rauzan Gassies has a terroir of gravel and sand soils. The vineyard is planted to 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. The average age of the vines is 35 years.
A red with blackberries, tobacco and chocolate with some tile character. It’s medium-bodied with chewy tannins and a medium finish. Better than the 2018.

An estate that has been producing consistently fruit-forward, medium-term drinking Margaux in recent vintages. The 2019 Rauzan Gassies has a lot going on. Sweet tobacco, mint, cedar, licorice and game give this deceptively mid-weight Margaux tons of depth. Pliant and resonant in the glass, the 2019 fleshes out beautifully and yet retains its translucent feel. There is a bit of rusticity here, but not too much.
