Bricco Giubellini is easily the most exciting young Barolo producer I have tasted for some time. Antonio Galloni
Established in 2000, Bricco Giubellini is the highest vineyard in Monforte d’Alba at 530 metres and the smallest single vineyard at just 0.33 hectares. The wine, made by Fabio Fantino, has until recently only been available locally – locally, as in the village of Monforte!
The 2016 Barolo del Comune di Monforte d’Alba from Bricco Giubellini presents lovely floral top notes to match its somewhat nervous, lithe personality. This high-altitude site, at [540 meters] above sea level, yields a Barolo with plenty of energy and bright acids. I find the 2016 lacking just a bit of depth in the middle. Otherwise, it is very nicely done.
