Winner Worlds Best Cabernet at the Concours International Des Cabernets 2018
1 trophy, 3 gold medals, 97 points
The Taylor family were really inspired by the great wines of Bordeaux, particularly the long lived Cabernet Sauvignons. So with this in mind, Mitchell Taylor expressed a desire to his chief winemaker that Taylors craft an extraordinary wine that represented the utmost refinement of this noble grape and truly embodied his grandfather's original vision. The wine was only to be produced in what was deemed exceptional quality vintages and to ensure its rarity, in extremely limited volumes. The Visionary Cabernet Sauvignon that has been created is not only a pure expression of the unique Clare Valley terroir but also the skill and craft of our winemakers, who understand exactly what it takes to achieve greatness. It's our intention to honour that original vision with this wine. That it not only rivals the best in Australia, but stands tall amongst the best in the world.
A selection of 20 barrels selected for their ""feminine"" attributes. Feminine is not the word that sprung to mind when tasting this generously-proportioned and impressively powerful cabernet sauvignon. Dense dark berry fruit, with a generous oak overlay. A solidly-structured wine with obvious cellaring potential.
The bouquet is powerful cassis and a lick of peppermint, with fruit leading over a relatively subtle oak background. The wine is very intense and powerful, with masses of firm tannins and a big parting grip. The concentration is impressive as is the density of flavour and tannin. Powerful and very long. It's still a baby and needs time. The tannins are well-managed. A top wine with a big future.
