This Ziereisen pinot noir is a beautiful bargain. It’s made from mostly estate fruit with a little organically grown pinot from a friend near Maltadingen about 80km north. All the fruit is handpicked and the wine is made exactly like the loftier priced wines except it’s mostly aged in larger oak. Hanspeter believes in ageing for at least 18 months and even 2 years. He is in no rush, it’s up to the wine.
This is a delicious blue-fruited pinot with medium body with gentle spice and nice silky tannins. It’s a slightly “cooler” and more vibrant expression of pinot compared to the 2015 that was so well-liked by our clients.
