TENUTA MORAIA is proud to champion this fascinating territory with its own Bolgheri wine, GATTABUIA. The origin of the word gattabuia derives from crossing “underground” with the adjective dark (buia), as the wine cellar is. In the old days, the households had a “gattabuia” a dark place dug underground for storage and aging of the houses best of the food, put aside for special occasions – prosciutto – oil – cheese – wine. But there is another layer of significance to this animated word as “gatta” means cat.
The label is a playful representation of the wine as a black cat whose silhouette is seen against the light posing a question to the viewer – where is the cat and what does it see?
