From vines averaging 30 to 35 years old, on mostly sandy slopes situated closer to the town of Bourgueil. Made from yields around 30hl/ha the alcoholic fermentation is done in open tanks with gentle plunging. Aged in large specially designed large wooden tanks for 12 months, this wine is notable for its freshness and perfume and has very fine tannins well covered with admirable flesh coming from fully ripe fruit.
A new cuvée chez Amirault, sourced from vines in La Coudraye. If I understood Yannick correctly the name refers to the depth of the soils (50 cm) before the roots hit limestone. Currently in cuve, this will be bottled in March. Some pretty fruit here, polished, with plenty of cherry stone and floral character. The palate feels beautifully cool and fresh, with a savoury structure of tannins and firm acidity supporting flavours of dried fruit skins. Supple and polished, yet grippy and imposing, long and pithy, with a tannin-infused bite in the finish. I suspect this will need a few years to come around.
