The man is a superstar, whose Pinots are up there with the very best." Tim Atkin, Master of Wine
Hanspeter Ziereisen has amplified the skin-contact to give a firm textural backbone to match the increased fruit density.
Pink-golden in color and from 50+-year-old vines, the 2017 Jaspis Grauer Burgunder offers a unique and very complex yet pure bouquet of perfectly ripe yet fresh and refined fruits on pure limestone rocks intertwined with yeasty notes. Vinified in 450-liter barrels from Assmann for almost two years, this is a rich, fresh, refined, very elegant, salty-piquant and highly stimulating Pinot Gris with rare tension, finesse and vitality. The alcohol of 13.5% is perfectly balanced by the mineral purity/vitality and tension as well as very fine tannins and this limestone grip and liveliness that pushes the wine to a fascinatingly complex and stimulating finish. This is one of the finest Pinot Gris on planet wine that I know of. And yes, it is bone dry (1.8 grams per liter of residual sugar).
