The oldest Aglianico in Australia planted in 2004. 100% whole berry fermented and then matured in a single 2nd year French puncheon. It draws on Southern Italian influence, combining a fresh-fruit palate with spice and savoury elements and dry tannin that carries to a refreshing finish.
Aglianico lives up to its reputation as Italy's ‘Barolo of the south', even a long way from its southern Italian roots. The grape's distinctive tannin and acid presence is keenly felt here, but the ripe Bendigo fruit is up to the task. Deep purple intensity. Black cherry, blackberry and back-strap licorice lead the bouquet. An enticing start to a wine that combines an Italian sensibility - sinewy tannins, sour cherry savouriness - with a rush of sweet raspberry chocolate-ripple fruit. Deep with a rustic edge.
