It's not hard to see why Meadow has become the most popular Gin of the Dasher + Fisher range. Originally conceived on a piece of paper as Burgess surveyed his garden from his Devonport kitchen window, the recipe uses 15 botanicals, sourced mainly from local growers. Meadow is Burgess' most multifaceted Gin and the most complex to distil, due to the abundance of botanical oils that seep into the spirit. It's based on Tasmanian lavender, but the heroes also include fresh orange and wild herbs (bay, rosemary and sage), picked from local gardens and fields, alongside coriander, cardamom and wild fennel.
With primary notes driven by wild meadow florals and appealing overtones of citrus, it's certainly a pretty Gin to nose. The palate is plump and layered, spiked with botanical oils and punchy herbal and citrus notes giving way to a lingering echo of juniper. It works beautifully in a G&T garnished with a slice of ruby grapefruit but also makes a brilliant Negroni.
