Hand-picked in the early hours of the morning, the fruit was lightly crushed and pressed before a relatively cool fermentation. Then the wine spent minimal time on yeast lees before being bottled early to maintain its freshness. No oak fermentation or maturation.
A vintage where the great vineyards showed their class, this release of HVD Semillon shows both power and finesse. Freshness on the nose, complexity on the back palate, and now in its transition stage from primary to secondary flavours. Waxy and honey toast, with good length.
Fresh squeeze lime, vanilla, approachable, zesty but round - the volume of fruit is most excellent - almost flamboyant for such a young wine. Flinty and tight to close. Not an ounce of flab here though, make no mistake. Ripping length. I predict an amazing future for this wine: a toast and lime spectacular to come.

I love the pear, sliced apple and mineral aromas here. Full body, tangy fruit and a tight finish. Focused and balanced. A real beauty. Drink now or hold. Screwcap.

This wine is only sourced from the vineyard planted by the Hunter Valley Distillery in 1908 on very sandy soil, the legacy of creek beds countless years before. It's stacked with flavour to the point of space invasion, and doesn't need more time for muscle building.
