About 30 months in Slavonian oak cask (70%) and barrique (30%), followed by eight months in the bottle for the final ageing process.
The elegance of the fruit comes through, as does the chewy intensity of the drying process: leather, resin, prune, raisin and a little tobacco and licorice. Sleek and silky, offering black cherry coulis and dried cranberry fruit notes, with silky tannins and accents of star anise, dried rosemary and sage that linger on the juicy, long finish. The mouth feel is richly textured and bold. If well maintained, the wine can be enjoyed for 25 years.

You can lose yourself in the bouquet of the 2016 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico La Marega, as violets and lavender give way to blackberries, cherry sauce, white smoke, and hints of clove. The textures are like pure silk, seamlessly coasting along a medium-bodied frame while displaying a dense core of mineral-tinged black fruits. There’s beautiful symmetry here, with residual acids buffering the 2016’s fine-grained tannins. It tapers off youthfully structured yet with cooling minty herbs contrasted by hints of mocha. This is stunning. La Marega is a single-vineyard expression from the Fumane sub-region within Valpolicella Classico.
