Vineyard. Vineyard. Vineyard. Lime, lime rind and mineral, very tight and young, fresh clean acidity, tangy, zesty, gently pulpy and pithy with a brightly lit ultra-long finish. Looking very much the goods. Almost certain to become a classic.

While other producers strive to broaden their semillon with techniques such as skin contact, additional time on lees and longer fermentations, the culture here is staunchly traditional: pressed off, fermented cool in tank and rigorous stabilisation. The proof with Lovedale’s stellar track record as one of the Hunter’s greatest semillon sites. Scents of key lime pie, lemongrass, tonic, buttered Wonder bread and citrus curd. Very fine. Pixelated. The mid palate, tightly furled but marked by a chiaroscuro of balletic lightness and ample extract. Plenty of velocity and a long trajectory across the palate. Still an adolescent. Much in store.
