This too is very reserved and only grudgingly reveals its gorgeously pure, elegant and wafting nose which speaks of violet, lavender, Asian style tea, sandalwood and softly spiced dark currant, plum and black raspberry scents. The silky but intense and exquisitely delineated medium weight flavors possess flat out superb depth on the impressively persistent finish. As it always is at this early stage, the '18 La Romanée is compact yet marvelously classy. Patience strongly advised, indeed I wouldn't even think of opening a bottle before its 15th birthday as it's clearly going to require extended cellaring if you wish to enjoy it at its peak. One of the wines of the 2018 vintage.

The 2018 La Romanée Grand Cru has a very detailed, complex bouquet of copious black cherry, blueberry and raspberry preserve aromas that burst from the glass, seamlessly integrated with the new oak. This is a multidimensional bouquet (as usual). The palate is medium-bodied, with supple tannins rendering this a very pliant La Romanée. Extremely focused with a silky texture and a vibrant, sorbet-fresh, persistent finish that lingers in the mouth. This is another profound La Romanée that will give decades of drinking pleasure for those who can afford that pleasure.

The 2018 La Romanée Grand Cru is the most reserved cuvée in the range, unwinding in the glass with notes of cherries, raspberries, dark chocolate, plums and spices that's framed by a nicely integrated bouquet of creamy new oak. It's full-bodied, velvety and enveloping, with a deep and multidimensional core that saturates the palate and largely conceals the wine's powdery structuring tannins. Underpinned by a lively spine of acidity and concluding with a long and pungently perfumed finish, this is a very serious La Romanée built for the cellar.
