Equal parts Dijon clones 95 and 96, from Karridale (in the cool south). Hand picked and whole-bunch pressed directly to French oak (60% new), This is taut and pure. A little (10%) mlf goes a long way. It forms a luscious bedrock of texture in the mouth, on which the fruit seemingly floats. The acidity is far less of an issue than expected; the high-acid clones, in addition to the cool growing area, has to potential to lead to very high – sometimes austere – acid. But, courtesy of the warm and glorious 2020 vintage, all is in balance. A silky, seamless and very fine wine.

The wine is made using Dijon Clones 95 & 96 in equal parts, sourced from the Karridale sub-region in Margaret River. The fruit was hand-picked and whole-bunch pressed directly into 60% new French oak and 40% one year old French oak. Juice was naturally fermented in barrel with only 10% allowed to go through full malolactic fermentation.
Bright, light yellow colour. Reserved aromas lead with pencil-shavings wood and a smoky, flinty note. The wine is delicate, focused and refined on the tongue, with a lean and penetrating profile. A very fine, high-tensile wine; a little more time will likely see the palate fill out a little more. An excellent wine with potential.
An intense, compact chardonnay with aromas of salted almonds, buttered toast, pineapples, grapefruits and flint stones. Medium to full body with tangy acidity and a dense and phenolic texture. Long and flinty at the end. Drink now or hold. Screw cap.
