The Picpoul grapes are grown in the South of France on the Mediterranean coast near the town of Sete and the wine is seen as an ideal match to the local oysters that are grown in the Thau lagoon right near the vineyards.
With a name that translates to 'lip stinger’ to describe the racy acidity in the wine, you can see why the variety is becoming so popular to match not only with oysters but all types of fresh seafood.
Clear lemon in appearance with aromas of pear skin, granny smith apple, citrus (limes) and some lovely floral tones of Acacia. The palate is fresh and clean with medium weight, and more citrus flavours are driving the palate, some subtle saline notes that give a vibrant sea spray and lemon twist finish.
If you're tired of Sauvignon Blanc then this is a great substitute for it. Ditto Albarino.
