A tribute to David Lloyd’s wife, Wendy (1954-2014), being the best selection of Chardonnay from the estate. I always have a slightly uneasy feeling assigning scores to wines that have a strong emotional connection to the winemaker; it seems kind of churlish to me. Anyway, wine is top shelf to my tastes, so here we go.
Nashi pear, spicy ginger oak, ripe lemon, fennel seed. It’s flavoursome but restrained, firm chalky texture, saline, with some wheatgerm and savoury flavours, cool and tight, with a long and fine spicy finish. Lovely wine. Needs a few years to really roll out.
