Hand picked from Nuriootpa vines planted 1893. Matured 19 months in 35% new French oak barriques; unfined and unfiltered. One bottle was cork scalped. Celebrating their 125th birthday, these grand old Barossa vines have put on quite a show. Dark plum, black cherry and blackberry fruit is layered with licorice and the sarsaparilla exoticism of old vines, confidently bolstered by dark chocolate and cashew nut French oak, weaving a tense mesh of tannin support. The finish holds considerable persistence, demanding a long rest for firm oak to integrate.
