Champagne Lanson is one of the oldest Champagne Houses founded in 1760 by Francois Delamotte.  His son, Nicolas-Louis, a Knight of the Order of Malta, succeeded him in 1798 and adopted the Maltese Cross as the company crest.  In 1828 he formed a partnership with Jean Baptiste Lanson, who in 1837 gave his name to the company.Champagne Lanson has been undergoing some very exciting changes. At the helm since 2006 are Bruno Paillard, of Champagne Bruno Paillard fame, and Philippe Baijot. Lanson’s unique features haven’t changed, most famously that the wines do not undergo malolactic fermentation to guarantee a fresh, age-worthy style that stands out for all other major Champagnes. This means that Lanson can release their vintage wines later than other houses, giving them an extra level of complexity.

Lanson Cuvee Pere et Fils Brut NV is rich and structured with rounded finesse and layers of complexity. It has a magnificent vibrant golden colour animated with tiny bubbles.
Aromas of ripe fruits, honey and spices and the palate, a complex full and lasting finish with honeydew flavours. A perfect aperitif with Lanson’s renowned freshness and added weight from extended ageing (spent extra 12 months on lees) to ensure it’s also food-friendly.
35% chardonnay, 50% pinot noir, 15% meunier; 100 different villages; no oak; Black Label aged 4 years on lees with a slightly lower dosage of 7g/L
Pale straw yellow hue. Attractively toasty, brioche-like bouquet, with aromas of parsnip, root-vegetables, dried flowers and dried herbs. The wine has body and complexity, and dryness without austerity. It's smoothly articulated and beautifully balanced. (Hervé Dantan is using a small percentage of malolactic these days in both Black Label and this wine. This wine is mainly on-premise and has an extra year of age over Black Label.

I have always admired the way Black Label blossoms with cellar age post-disgorgement, and Père et Fils is a celebration of its endurance. It upholds bright, crunchy lemon zest and red apple fruit amidst the rising toast, biscuits, roast nuts and spice of maturity. The 2012 base presents a freshness that belies its age, even paler in hue and more elegant in style than the 2013 base Black Label, radiating with bright, focused lemon and tangelo, sustained by scintillating malic acidity. The harrowing 2011 season marks its release with subtle underripe, grassy notes and hints of coffee- bean dryness and phenolic bitterness. Nonetheless, it’s a pretty good result for the season and the price.
