90% Mount Barker, 10% Porongurup, Great Southern
This museum release is the same as the original 2013 Howard Park Riesling release.
As it is often difficult to store & drink aged wines so each year Howard Park have held a portion of this wine in their warehouse in ideal conditions to demonstrate the complexity that this variety offers over time.
After a contemplative 5 years in the cellar, the high spirits of youth have evolved. The bouquet’s citrus aromas, now embossed with notes of nougat, nutmeal, meringue and preserved lemon, imply.depth and complexity. Whist guided by a fine and linear acidity, the palate is enriched and layered with lemon curd, nut praline and baked apple. This wine has retained intensity, brightness, varietal definition and lasting flavour. Drink from now - 2023+
A riesling that retains a youthful glow and carries its age well. Mineral, lightly toasty, spring blossom, lantana, lime pith and more. The palate goes on and on and with it a rising intensity in developed riesling characters with acidity keeping things tight. This is why people get excited by aged riesling.
Some development in the colour is no issue, for it is tinged with green; the bouquet and fore-palate have ripe lime fruit to the fore, then crisp, minerally acidity balances and lengthens the palate, boding well for the future.
