Nebbiolo is to Italy what Pinot Noir is to France. With it’s origins in Piedmont in Italy’s north-west, it is a notoriously difficult variety to grow, with clonal and site selection paramount. We now have some great examples of Australian produced Nebbiolo. The Cato ‘La Promessa’ is one such wine, showing the typically varietal aromas of rose, violets and cherry, while the mid-weight palate displays blackberry, cherry and tobacco notes; chalky tannins feature on a long finish.
This is serious heavy duty nebbiolo that will have great appeal to lovers of Italian wine and food, the two indivisible. It will be to this core to decide whether there are better things to do with life (and nebbiolo). This should persuade wine lovers who haven't had the money or opportunity to join the foray and do so.
