The Clayvin Vineyard is located on the north facing slopes of the Brancott Valley, Marlborough NZ. Clayvin Vineyard takes its unique name from the clay based soil profile that lies beneath the vineyard. The complex clay profile varies across the vineyard, allowing a number of different varieties to be grown, including Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. This vineyard consistently produces grapes of outstanding quality.
This is 21st vintage of Clayvin Vineyard Pinot and even more than ever it expresses the unique qualities that this hallowed hillside site can offer. The 2017 effortlessly shows depth and complexity whilst oozing finesse and elegance.
A bright, energetic opening defined by ripe red/blue fruit and lifting, fine minerality leads into a seasoning of dried herb and a touch of chacouterie savouriness. The palate reveals its class with good fruit weight, ripe layered tannins and fine acidity. There’s a charm and persistence to this wine with a tight structure that will preserve its qualities for years to come.

Hints of struck flint and pencil shavings join black cherries on the nose of the 2017 Clayvin Vineyard Pinot Noir. Medium to full-bodied, with a dry, dusty, firm finish marked by sturdy tannins, this wine needs at least 2-3 years in the cellar to soften and fill out.
