The Evangelist is a precious embodiment of the Barossa’s heart – a tiny blend of Old Vine Shiraz from three jewels of vineyards in celebrated sub-districts, Eden Valley (37%), Ebenezer (28%) and Stonewell (35%).
(Barossa Valley & Eden Valley) Deep red/purple hue and a spicy, fumy, violets and licorice aroma, the palate lively, intense, tight and finely focused - elegant rather than rich or expansive. I like the style. (From 3 prized old-vine vineyards, in Eden Valley, Stonewell and Ebenezer) 30 MAY 2017 Drink 2017–2035

Ripe fruit with remarkable density, though there is also a desirable coolness to the fruit. The palate has the type of plush concentration that you only get from very old vines. The oak is in check, and the balance is impeccable. It is completely delicious now though will age gracefully with time 26 JUN 2017 Drink 2017–2027

It saw 50% new (French) oak but highly scented fruit is the principal player. Indeed this wine proves that you can be rich and ripe and still maintain a fresh, vibrant disposition. Cranberry and plum, coffee-cream and port-wine jelly, all studded with clove and star anise. It feels confident from start to finish; it makes quality look easy.
