As usual this is 100% 1er Cru juice from Les Genavrières labelled as village wine. Les Genavrières sits at the top of the slope above Clos de la Roche, just below the forest, and part of this vineyard was incorporated into the Grand Cru as recently as 1971. The rest, where this wine comes from, is 1er cru. The élevage mirrors 2016--the grapes were 100% destemmed--though less new oak (only 15%) was used. There is lovely flesh and mouthwatering seduction here with layers of crushed plums, dried fruit, anise and fine tannins.
"The 2017 Morey-Saint-Denis Village has a crisp blackberry bouquet that is slightly tarry and earthy and gains intensity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, crisp acidity, good structure and a sturdy, slightly surly finish. Give this a couple of years in bottle."
